Injection molder reduces cost 50% with New & Improved Dyna-Purge® C.

With 21 machines and frequent changeovers, IMCO needed a more cost effective purging compound.

New & Improved Dyna-Purge C requires just 1.25 pounds of material versus 3 pounds of material used in previous purging methods.

SITUATION:
IMCO, Inc. of Rochester, NY is a custom injection molding company serving a wide array of customers. Among IMCO’s many products are clear polycarbonate lenses and window parts. The company operates molding presses ranging from 40 tons to 720 tons, including 21 injection molding machines with screw sizes ranging from 28 mm to 80 mm.

IMCO's maintenance manager noted they purge equipment when necessary, sometimes up to 3 times per day, for color changes or whenever there is any question of possible contamination. IMCO often uses materials such as black polyester and black nylon, which are among the more difficult resins to purge.

SOLUTION:
Dyna-Purge introduced IMCO to New & Improved Dyna-Purge C, providing a sample for testing and evaluation. According to IMCO's maintenance manager, New & Improved Dyna-Purge C performed better, requiring less material to be used.

RESULTS:
• Using New & Improved Dyna-Purge C reduced the amount of material needed by more than half of what IMCO had been using.
• IMCO can cut their cost to purge by nearly 50% and drastically reduce scrap rates compared to previous purging methods.
• Whether IMCO was changing colors or resins, there was no milky residue or cloudiness when using New & Improved Dyna-Purge C.
