Dyna-Purge® Productivity Begins with Purging ®

Custom processor switches to Dyna-Purge and reduces amount of purge used by 85%.

Just 3 kg of Dyna-Purge M is required to purge the Van Dorn 250 machine versus 20 kg of the previous purging materials.

Situation:

Tangibles Ltd. of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, has been active in custom thermoplastic moulding and plastic profile extrusion for 30 years.

Tangibles' 50,000 square foot facility features an array of extrusion and injection moulding machines including a Van Dorn 250 machine with 1.5" diameter screw used for, among other products, processing caps and plungers, with barrel temperatures typically ranging from 385° F to 420° F (196° C to 215° C). This machine is purged on a weekly basis when specific colour or material changeovers are performed.

As part of an initiative to lower scrap rates, Tangibles operations manager noted that their old purging method was to use a blend of resins which were run until the material looked visibly clear. They would then run another material through the barrel to remove any leftover purging mixture. It was a time and labour intensive process.

Solution:

Use Dyna-Purge® M with dual-action scrubbing power designed to clean faster and more efficiently than other purging options at temperatures from 350°F to 600°F (177°C to 315°C).

Results:

  • Using the Dyna-Purge compound allowed for a complete changeover in just 28 minutes.
  • Dyna-Purge has helped increase overall productivity as machines are down for less time, and the amount of physical labor needed to prepare the machines for the next run is drastically reduced.
  • Savings also occur as just 3 kg. of Dyna-Purge are used to achieve the same results as using 20 kg. of the previous purging materials. And Dyna-Purge M helps reduce both scrap and reject rates.
